Floating oil seal selection

The floating seal ring is a non-contact dynamic seal that restricts fluid leakage by a small gap between the floating metal ring and the shaft or housing. The floating ring can float freely in the housing, so the shaft has a small impact on the seal when the shaft rotates at high speed and generates vibration, and the friction and wear are also small. The floating ring seal is a high speed seal that can be used to seal gases and liquids. When sealing the gas, the float ring device should be filled with lubricating oil to seal and lubricate.

There are many factors to consider when choosing to use the floating seal ring. The form of the suitable floating seal ring and the choice of materials, the working conditions to be considered generally include: pressure, temperature, medium. As for the pressure, it affects the form of the floating seal ring to be used. For example, when starting in a construction machine, its impact pressure is much larger than the normal working pressure when it is closed, so it is often used to use a floating seal ring with a pressure resistance up to 70Mpa.

Regarding the temperature, for example, the operating temperature range of the NBR material is generally between -40 and +120 °C. If it exceeds 120 °C, it is necessary to consider the floating seal ring using HNBR, or even FKM material. Low temperature is rare. Generally speaking, cold-resistant NBR should be considered in the case of -20~-35 °C. In general, NBR materials will cause the material to become hard and cause leakage. The problem with floating seal ring media is relatively simple. Just need to pay attention to some special small problems, such as the metallurgical industry's cylinders often use water-glycol and phosphate ester hydraulic oil. Sometimes, although the working temperature is not high, the material should be very carefully selected. FKM should be used when using water-glycol and phosphate ester hydraulic oil.
