The commonly used raw material manufacturing processes for floating oil seals and floating seal rings are mainly forging and casting, and some are also manufactured by powder hot forging. Among them, die forging, rolling and forging, etc., are generally used to manufacture carbon alloy structural steel raw materials such as bearing steel, with high speed and low cost. Casting commonly used investment casting, shell casting, pressure casting and other methods.


The surface hardness of the sealing surface of the float seal ring is relatively high, generally reaching above HRC58 and up to HRC72. In order to achieve higher hardness of metal materials and improve wear resistance, for most materials, the float seal ring also needs to be subjected to overall quench hardening treatment or surface hardening treatment of the sealing surface. Surface hardening treatment generally uses induction hardening, in addition to nitriding, or plasma arc powder spray welding, laser quenching, etc. Compared with the overall quenching, the surface hardening treatment can minimize the thermal deformation of the metal ring.


The rubber rings of different materials and different hardness of the floating oil seal have different physical and chemical properties, and need to be selected according to the temperature of the application, sealing medium, environmental corrosion and equipment operating conditions. In most cases, nitrile rubber can be used, or low temperature nitrile rubber, fluororubber, hydrogenated nitrile rubber, silicone rubber, etc. can be selected. The hardness is closely related to the physical properties of the rubber material. Generally, the higher the hardness, the greater the elastic modulus, the greater the tensile strength, and the lower the elongation at break. Often choose ShoreA50~70 this kind of lower hardness rubber material, easy to install and adjust accurately, you can get better floating performance.
