Under high-speed conditions, the lubricating oil will be thrown away from the sealing surface under the action of centrifugal force, making the sealing surface lack of lubrication, and the centrifugal force will raise the sealing surface of the floating seal ring, increase the angle of the back cone surface, and make the sealing surface contact the specific pressure Increase. These two reasons can easily cause the sealing surface to burn out.

Therefore, under the conditions of high linear velocity or high ambient temperature, it is usually chosen to reduce the contact pressure of the sealing surface. The maximum linear velocity of the floating oil seal is generally required for the floating seal ring of bearing steel not to exceed 1m/s, and for the casted floating seal ring not to exceed 3m/s, and varies with the material of the floating seal ring. This is a control method to ensure the cooling state of the floating oil seal.

Through maintenance means to maintain the cooling state of the floating oil seal, the lubricating oil obviously cannot be ignored. The lubricating oil not only provides lubrication for the sealing surface of the floating seal ring, but also plays a role in cooling the floating seal ring. Therefore, the lubricating oil must be immersed at least 1/3 of the floating oil seal in order to lubricate and cool the floating seal ring normally. Generally, it is recommended to immerse to 1/2~2/3 of the floating oil seal, especially for floating seal rings with general wear resistance or floating seal rings lacking fine texture on the surface.
